Dance on the tightrope.

Showtime at the BMW Motorrad Days.

When Sarah Lezito stunt rides, it looks like her motorcycle is dancing. At the BMW Motorrad Days, the Frenchwoman gets the S 1000 R to dance and puts her reputation as the best stuntwoman in the world to the test in an acrobatic “Street Dance”.

Early morning training session: Sarah Lezito makes her motorcycle dance.

At the event arena it becomes silent like in a theatre when the light goes out. The curtain falls and Sarah Lezito rides onto the stage of the BMW Motorrad Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Her appearance goes hand in hand with the sound of the S 1000 R, which breaks the silence. The 24-year-old lets her bike dance beneath her – as though it was a BMX, not a BMW. With her drifts, she draws perfect figures of eight on the asphalt, to then take a run-up for a series of perfected stunts from her repertoire.

The S 1000 R as a stunt bike

Sarah picked out her stunt bike herself and is convinced of its stunt suitability.

Stunt version of the S 1000 R.

The new stunt rider from BMW Motorrad picked out her stunt bike herself. “I find the S 1000 R surprising and original. I am out and out impressed. This bike is precisely my style and reinforces it.” Sarah finds the bike relatively light and easy to handle. Yet there still had to be several changes in order to make the S 1000 R capable of stunts. First Sarah replaced the sprocket so that she could ride the bike extremely slowly for technical tricks. She completely removed the lights and stowed the electronics behind the fairing. The custom tank supports Sarah with her stunts and allows her to perform even more tricks. She replaced the handlebars and foot pegs. Furthermore, the bike received a rear wheel handbrake.

Suntwoman with mechanical skills.

“When I demolish something on my bike, I don’t want to wait for a mechanic. I am too impatient for that”, Sarah Lezito says.

Suntwoman with mechanical skills.

Sarah does a great deal on the motorcycle herself. She is nevertheless delighted that her best buddy Romain helps her and even makes parts for her bike himself. “Sometimes, I have no choice but to do things myself. When I demolish something on my bike, I don’t want to wait for a mechanic. I am too impatient for that. But in general, I am very happy that Romain helps me and I can keep my hands off the mechanics.” Sarah is not exactly over-sensitive with her motorcycles. If a machine wants to keep up with this girl, it has to be robust. “I have damaged a lot of bikes already”, she says laughing, “but we have usually been able to repair them.”

Training with Chris Pfeiffer

Sarah Lezito has a great role model: Chris Pfeiffer. As a teenager, she strove to emulate the stunt riding hero. “Chris inspired me. At the age of 14, I managed to get a picture taken with him at one of his shows in France”, she recalls. “I am proud to be treading in his footsteps and hope that I will one day be as good as he is. He has done so much for our sport. He is a great person and also has a great style.” When Chris Pfeiffer found out that Sarah Lezito would be riding stunt shows for BMW Motorrad, he immediately invited her to his home in Bavaria. “We trained on his grounds and I told him about my plans with the S 1000 R”, Sarah says. “He was pretty amazed and wanted to pitch his F 800 to me. But I would rather tame a strong bike than tune one with not enough horsepower. I am used to four cylinders and can’t imagine a more suitable motorcycle than the S 1000 R.”

Sarah Style

Perfected tricks.

Sarah invented her own style and brought her tricks to perfection.

Perfected tricks.

Despite her talent, it is hard work setting herself apart from the mass of talented stunt riders. Especially considering that girls can’t always keep up with the boys on particularly demanding tricks. Correspondingly, Sarah does not base her stunt riding skills on extremely demanding tricks. “I didn’t invent tricks, but I invented my style. I do my own thing and in doing so try to perfect each individual trick.” Sarah loves all kinds of jumps on the tank, drifts and above all stoppies. “I could do them until the front wheel brake is worn through,” she says.

Flexibility and lightness.

In order to be fit for her dance atop the motorcycle, Sarah trains hard. “I have to work a lot on my flexibility. It took a while until I got the balancing act worked out and if I don’t stick at it, it is gone again before I know it. But I find tricks that require elasticity pretty cool. So I fight my way through.” Besides her decisive, focused nature, Sarah also has a great deal of talent for stunt riding. She treats her bike as though it were weightless. Each movement is perfect and illustrates her sensitivity for the motorcycle. And the audience is impressed by the “Sarah Style”.

Dancing on the sound of the engine.

Sarah doesn’t need music for her Street Dance: “The best music is the sound of the engine.”

Dancing on the sound of the engine.

Sarah doesn’t need music for her dance. “The best music is the sound of the engine. I want to appreciate 100 per cent of it. Everything else distracts me when training.” Just while getting prepared for the training, Sarah likes to listen to music in order to get into the right mood. After that, only she and the bike exist – and the silence. “The S 1000 R has a good sound. I don’t want external noises to conceal it.” She kept the original exhaust, and this is sound enough for her.
